Back when being black in public was considered probable cause to arrest someone. Oh, Georgia.

Things haven't changed much since then.

Okay... so all of the states that have citizens arrest laws are using a slavery era law originally created to help capture escaped slaves.

Why havent more states done away with it? Or Canada?

Just before he was cornered and shot to death, Arbery had entered an unoccupied property where a house was under construction. The owner of the property has said nothing was taken and that Arbery, who was on a Sunday afternoon jog, probably just stopped there for a drink of water.

So, what were they trying to "arrest" him for then?

Its also really amazing how the people who hate black people are also the ones who praise the history of the people who forced those black people to come here and be slaves....they are here because of those ancestors you all claim to love so much.

Their authority to restrain the person until police arrive would come from such a law.
Yea, Killing someone isn't restraining them until police arrive. Also, if the person did nothing wrong and you killed or injured them you aren't absolved of fault because you THOUGHT they MIGHT be doing something wrong.

They stated that they recognized him from security footage from a rash of recent burglaries. I dont recall exactly, but I believe someone else then reported to the defendant that they saw them trespassing on a construction site.

It isnt too bleak, though. The judge did rightfully decide that the victims criminal record couldnt be brought up in the trial.

When did they say that? He was seen on video going into that same home that was under construction previously. The same home that many other people were seen going into. They used "a rash of recent burglaries" as an excuse to hunt him down and kill him, but the only security footage they saw him in was from that same home where he never tried to steal anything.

The ironic thing is they might have gotten away with it. Originally no charges were filed. Then one of the 3 killers leaked a video he made of the killing. He thought it would prove he was innocent but the opposite happened. After the video leaked, all 3 men were charged after public demand
