I agree that calling stuff like Persona "dating sims" is overblown.

But...to be absolutely fair, I see a LOT more people arguing about Chie and Yukiko than I do about Liara and Tali. Maybe it's just the way the fanbase presents the franchise to pop culture's collective conscious.

jrpgs tend to emulate the relationship aspect more while leaving the sex mostly implied

western rpg characters fall in love after two conversations and usually have intercourse after completing a quest
