I never got around to watching the movie but I see they are doing an anime adaption of the movie. It will probably have a lot more depth than the movie because there is just more time. Should I even bother watching the movie at this point?

I think the first episode is new content, so watch it regardless.

I find anime shonen movies kind of jarring. The pacing is fast and the animation is tight and fluid. This is ostensibly a good thing, but when you watch an entire anime series and then see the movie adaption it just feels weirdly rushed.

Like ever watch any of the One Piece movies? Where's the 45 second long stare down prior to saying something in every scene? How can you just jump in there and fight and not name literally every attack. Weird.

It's a wait-and-see situation. Generally when an anime re-does a movie arc it's just awful, but in this case the movie cut a bunch of stuff for pacing that the anime might put back in. The first episode being almost entirely filler doesn't bode well, though. Now that the manga is over, they might be trying to pad things out to get an extra season or two out of it.

The big unknown is whether they'll be re-animating actual scenes from the movie or just re-using that footage. If it's the former, just watch the movie. If it's the latter, the show will be your best bet.
