we go to the front, and the bouncer says "sorry, we have a dress code...you can't wear those shoes in"

so, here's some free pro tips about how to handle this situation:

1. first, try being apologetic and sweet. it's the easiest and least try hard solution. plus, she's a hot af girl so they'll usually let it slide. "oh sorry, it's her first time here and we're celebrating her promotion. can you make an exception just this once?" Note how i squeeze in the rationals/justifications/excuses and emphasize how it will just be a one time thing. People are way more likely to accept bullshit if there's any sort of reasoning behind them: the bouncer will have to actually be a dick to turn away a girl celebrating her promotion. unfortunately, the bouncer was a dick and still said no, leading to door #2

2. be confident and entitled (up until the point where you are an asshole). "I actually have a VIP pass for here, are you positive you can't make an exception?" I just took out my vip pass and showed it to him. Really hard for the bouncer to say no to a VIP. If you don't have a VIP pass, you can try other options, just say you go there a lot and how much you love it ("i'm here literally all the time"), etc. Let them know how valuable you are as a return customer. the guy relents a bit, but only says "man...we'll have to get manager approval", which leads to door #3

3. don't be afraid to channel your inner karen and ask for the manager. at this place, i actually knew the specific night manager and asked for him by name "is david working tonight?". unfortunately david, wasn't and they brought out another manager who denied our request lmao. but these 3 steps work a good chunk of the time

anyway, i ended up taking the girl to my new loft down the street and we had drinks there instead

the first time this happened like 12 years ago, i went home and cried, thought about it in the shower. workshop some lines

next time it happens, i try those lines i practiced. then rinse and repeat

the methodology shown here is the result of 12+ years of calibration
