I just saw an ad for the Story of Seasons game, and it got me really curious about it. I downloaded Animal Crossing: New Horizons when it came out, and played it for a couple weeks, but it just got really boring for me. Like there wasn't actually much for you to do each day to take care of the island, and the difficulty level (if you can even say it has one) is very low. It seems the main goal is to just collect everything you can, and design an island to show off? I just had no motivation to continue.

I am much more interested in a game that is heavier on the simulation part, where you have to put more thought in how you farm, how you manage the land, how you manage your resources, how you make money? I am less interested in the collecting part, more interested in the sim, something like the old Sim City or Sim Tower games of old? Is this something that Story of Seasons does better?

Stardew Valley is another game too I might be interested in, how would you rank that w/ Story of Seasons and AC? Just looking at the overview, it seems very similar to Story of Seasons?

_ There isn't much of a difficulty level to the AC games. You just talk to animals, maybe send them letters, make a cool house, go fishing and bug catching. It's not much of a simulation game. If you wanted something like Harvest Moon, then yeah, AC games wouldn't really fit that.

And Harvest Moon games aren't really like SimCity, either. You have to manage stuff, and you can build, but there's less autonomy than you'd find in a SimCity game. You have to manually water and harvest crops, feed the animals, pet them, clean them, do events, etc. every day.

Hmm I think I might try Stardew Valley after watching some comparison videos. Its 2D, but it sounds like it basically does everything Story of Seasons does, but better?

Not entirely, but in some ways yes. Though personally I feel like Stardew Valley has TOO MUCH to do at this point. SoS games are designed with an end in sight since it's an ongoing series, whereas Stardew Valley is designed to be played forever.

That said I absolutely contend that SoS: Trio of Towns on 3DS is the best Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons game ever made, AND is even better than Stardew Valley. Regardless though,

This. The game is free to try for a week. Go give it a shot! Its one of the better SoS games.

The only thing I didn't like about Pioneers of Olive Town was the fact you needed 10+ of almost every maker just to get the items you want. But that has supposedly been patched up, just not sure how exactly. It was annoying having to wait 10 in-game hours to get one piece of lumber if you only had one maker. And if you had too many makers on your farm it caused the game to lag. You always had to be thinking ahead because some buildings cost 50 of some odd lumber which could take weeks of preparing. There were other complaints about the game but the developers swallowed their egos and actually made several posts in regards to fixing what people found most annoying.

But overall it's a really, really fun game. I got to around year 3 before getting burned out and taking a break. I haven't played since before the second major update came out, but the vanilla version is really good. Especially if you enjoy the farming/animal systems, which I can explain further if you'd like. I can only imagine the other updates to the game have made it even better. This topic has actually made me want to go back into the game and see how different it is.

In terms of the other Harvest Moon games, I'd rank Pioneers of Olive Town as number 5. First is Harvest Moon 64, then DS, then Animal Parade, then Tree of Tranquility. I'd place Friends of Mineral Town as #6. Just to give you a better idea of how I liked it.

Animal Crossing: NH was really bland and I only played it for like a month. It kind of felt like the soul of Animal Crossing has been sucked out of it. Go back and play the original and you'll see how unique each and every character is. You'll see how fun it is to play during the holidays. Now it seems like every character is just the same. And a lot of past furniture / clothes that were in previous games are no longer in it. Maybe it's gotten better since the last time I played but it would take a lot for me to give it another chance. I just could not get into it, had a lot to do with the crafting system which is a pain. I don't feel like it was a real Animal Crossing game when you had to store 99+ of like 50 different items in your storage just to make random furniture.

It was a lot better than City Folk, but not as good as the 3DS one.

Yeah they've done a ton of QOL updates. Lag is pretty non-existent, even with a ton of makers and structures. Makers work a lot faster. (Like, you can get away with maybe 2-3 of each)

An awesome, overlooked update they just added in like a week or two ago is the ability to turn on 'closeup talking' or something. Basically, during conversations it will change the camera to focus really close on the person, so you can see their expressions. Its a great standing for the lack of portraits.

I ended up playing Stardew Valley till like 3 am last night, it is really addictive. Havent even gone to the mines yet.

Also, I cannot believe this whole game was made by 1 person. Just drawing all the sprites, and drawing them well, would take soooooooooo long
