It's been a while since I've watched the movie but the entire sequence from the little girl getting the peanut butter allergy reaction and the events that follow from there being capped off with the final reveal of her decapitated head being eaten by ants immediately after thinking they weren't going to go graphic with it is perhaps the best sequence I've seen from any modern horror movie.

It's so fucking horrific, it's completely shocking and everything about it is done well. That god damn scream when the Mom finds her daughter.

the only good scene in the movie, IMO.

besides that, the movie felt like a lot of cult/possession horror movies.

Watching this in the theater, having only seen the trailer, and not having known to expect something so abrupt and horrific, was a really fucked up experience

The bigger thing in my head is the mom screaming in horror. Absolutely haunting.

He was basically numbed by shock. He completely shut down.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

I think he was supposed to be in extreme shock, leading to the odd behavior. Id like to think Id drive straight to the hospital in such a situation, but who knows how Id react if something like that actually happened to me.

Have you ever inadvertently beheaded your sister? . I'm not sure we have a big enough sample size to know what a "normal" reaction is.

Midsommar is better

100%. Hereditary didnt jive with me and I was disappointed because Ari Aster was getting talked up so much, but then he hit the mark with Midsommar.

To be fair I don't think the hospital was going to do anything for her at that point.

To me at least, it made complete sense that he'd react like that. He knew he had just ruined his own life, forever, and couldn't do anything aside from lie down for a few hours and delay the inevitable consequences of his actions. He didn't try to lie or hide what he did, but at the same time I don't think he had the energy or will to face the aftermath of it.

I have no idea whether or not he's a racist, but apparently there are recordings of him using racial slurs so it's a distinct possibility.

Yeah this. It's almost like he reverted to being a child. When a kid knows they've fucked up so badly (like breaking an ornament or something) so they just retreat to the bedroom waiting for a parent to angrily call their name.

But in this case it's a lot more horrific and traumatizing.
