Hey, my friend got stabbed by his brother for using Growl on a Pidgey.

So basically, it was in '97 or 98,I guess.

Pokemon Blue and Red were quite new games, I think. I was seven or eight and I was round my friends house. We were both waiting for our birthdays to get GameBoys and the games, but his older brother who was, like, eleven had Pokemon Blue already.

So we're sat watching over his brothers shoulder as he starts a new game and we could tell he was annoyed, but he also kinda wanted to show off. So then my friend starts loudly lamenting that he couldn't wait to get the game for himself and a minute later, their Dad walks in and says "Hey, give your brother a go."

The older kid starts shrieking that it was his 'fuckin' game' and that "he won't know how to play it"

So the Dad gets mad and insists he let my friend play.

Bruh, I remember it like yesterday. The kid passes the GameBoy over midway through a fight against a level 3 Pidgey. Bulbasaur was already pretty fucked up from previous battles and he'd been hit by a sand attack or two.

My friend starts gleefully button mashing and misses two Tackles. His brother starts having a tantrum, half laughing half screaming "YOU FUCKIN' SUCK, YOU CAN'T BEAT PIDGEY."

My friend is all redfaced and confused, so he tries something new and hits Growl. All hell breaks loose.

His brother swats the GameBoy out of his hand screaming "GROWL DOES NOTHING". He throws a punch at his brother, but their Dad steps in and throws the kid out of the room.

My friend and I are sat on the living room floor shaking as the Dad and the brother are off having a screaming match in the kitchen.

I'm quietly suggesting that maybe he could try catching the Pidgey....?

Then there's a shout from outside the room and the brother comes flying in wielding a little steak knife and plunges it into my friend's arm. Then he picks up the GameBoy and walks away.

Then it's kind of a blur. The Dad comes in, sees me crying, my friend screaming, blood everywhere and he open-hand brains the fuck out of the older brother. I'll remember that smack til my dying day. My Mum came to collect me soon after and my friend went to the hospital.

The older kid went to live somewhere else for a while and i didn't see him again til years later.

My friend recovered well and still remains a Pokemon fan to this day, although he claims to fucking hate Bulbasaur.
