Metacritic/Gamerankings scores for Crazy Taxi

Crazy Taxi Dreamcast - 90
Crazy Taxi PS2 - 82
Crazy Taxi Gamecube - 69 (Don't really know why)
Crazy Taxi 2 - 80
Crazy Taxi 3 - 69
Crazy Taxi Fare Wars - 64
Crazy Taxi Xbox 360 - 59

I think the formula is overall the same for each game but it's funny to see something go from critically acclaimed to meh.

Crazy Taxi had awesome graphics for the day, and that's about it. It wasn't really that fun.

You can see the scores drop down for the first game alone. That's within a span of 10 years.

In comparison it would be like a re-release of Skyrim now releasing with a score of 59. As far as I remember the only issue with the 360 version was the downgraded soundtrack and marketing tie-ins.

I didn't realize Crazy Taxi had sequels. I just assumed every time I saw the game it was a port of the original (or the arcade port) on Dreamcast.

I feel like this would be a good reason if Pokmon didn't exist. For some reason people don't seem to grow up from Pokmon.

A big difference is that Pokemon is still a game someone can spend hours on.

Crazy Taxi is an arcade game that's designed for quick bursts. These games were basically obliterated from retail during the PS2 era for longer experiences. They eventually found a new home on digital stores and mobile gaming but even then Crazy Taxi just doesn't seem to resonate as much as it used to.

It's a similar story for Sega Rally actually
Sega Rally Saturn - 90
Sega Rally Championship 2 Dreamcast - 81
Then by the time it's on Xbox 360
Sega Rally Revo - 77
Sega Rally Online Arcade - 70

Sure some of it can be blamed on Sega not really knowing how to keep their franchises going but unfortunately for them I think a lot of it is due to their expertise being made completely irrelevant around the year 2000.

Yeah the arcade racer just seemed to die off so damn quickly. It lasted a little bit longer than most other arcade experiences but in retrospect not for that much longer. Feels like it has been a long time since there's been a major one.
