I think its neat that he got his film made, but.why did people suddenly care about Snyder?

I thought people only liked 300 and were disappointed with him from Sucker Punch onwards. Man of Steel was divisive I guess.

I feel like it started as a meme that went beyond the meme into a real thing people thought other people wanted.

It started as just a hardcore group of Snyder super fans, and then it picked up steam from DC stans, MCU haters, trolls, anti-establishment teens, and people supporting it ironically/for the schadenfreude.

I'm convinced it was astroturfing, though I base this on no evidence.

Seems like the kind of thing that would be driven by some weird comic movie YouTube people, like the kind of guy who makes a bunch of videos about stuff Brie Larson says or whatever

I haven't seen either version, but wasnt the first JL a mess obviously stitched together from two very different approaches? If I were a big DC fan I'd also want something that was at least one person's cohesive vision

This is part of the story too. "Fun" fact is that comic books had their own gamergate (aptly referred to as comicsgate) and while they're not totally connected, there was a degree of audience overlap before the Snyder cut stuff REALLY took off in momentum.

Theres also the fact that the whole reason he had to leave the film was very tragic, makes it easy for people to want to root for him

It'a hell of a good movie. Same way as Army of the Dead being an absolute trainwreck and contender for worst movie of the year

Snyder's Justice League was originally planned to be two parts, and he filmed 4+ hours. So, when the final product came out and it was trash, people wanted to see what his original vision was. Of course, the Snyder cut still isn't his original vision, but it was obviously closer. I'm not sure why anyone thought his version would really be any better since his last two DC movies weren't good either, but they did. Maybe it was the fact that the Director's cut of Watchmen was better than the original?

I see this pop up on twitter sometime, there's always some hyper-rational 'Is it okay if I DM you so we can talk about this more and you can learn the truth' message afterwards, it's hilarious.
