I won't lie playing Tales of Vesperia made me question a lot Flynn and Yuri's sexuality. Ike and Soren in Fire emblem(seriously Soren "coming out" as half laguz and saying it's "against the will of the godess" makes me thing they really wanted to do this, but did not dare to commit).

Yes. Most writers before never dared to have lgbt characters in the past so allegories were almost mandatory in the 90s or early 2000 for example.

It got a lot better with more same sex options in the last Fire Emblem for example(although lesbians options were way better)

Well. If you don't like shipping characters it's fine, but some people enjoy it. I notice that people almost only say that comment for same sex couple though

Samus is trans.

Ike is definitely gay, after radiant dawn he either heads off by himself or with Soren or Ranulf. And his A ranks with them in path of radiance definitely are well... There's a degree of closeness that goes beyond being best friends. That's all I'll say.

Joshua in The World Ends With You. Though "coded" may be putting it lightly when he openly flirts with Neku and adopts the rainbow ranger title in the post-game side story.

It's not really queer coding in video games as much as stereotyping femme gay men and all-around general queer-baiting.

There are actually reasons to think Samus is trans, based off some comments by the developer who later rolled it back. Regardless if she is or isn't "officially" trans, she's still become a trans icon for some people. Similar to Poison (Street Fighter) who is sometimes trans, sometimes not, and officially given different backgrounds in different hemispheres (which is bullshit).

Velvet in Tales of Berseria is almost coded as bisexual, but it's only in the beginning and really falls more into queer-baiting as well.

EDIT: Lucca is coded as bi-curious. Ayla is just bi.

On a serious note, I hate it when it's assumed that someone not conforming to a gender stereotype means they're trans.

The Peach Mountain Shoguns in Mystical Ninja 64 were okama (slang/pejorative for transgender people). The term would have been translated as something like "transvestite" or "crossdresser" in the 90s, but they localized it as "weirdo" instead, which was even worse.

Also her shyness is just about sex/relationships, not about other stuff.

She's like 6'3, excessively feminine, wears body suits underneath her work uniform. I mean. Shit, if she's not trans, then I guess neither were most of my exes.

Yeah, the whole "Samus is trans" thing is based off an old magazine article that calls her "he", which is actually due to the writer not being aware of the ending. The height is meant to be a red herring for the plot twist.

Its blatant as can be, but never do they say hes gay. Also, pretty sure he was only in the Japanese version because of this.
