Ive always took it to mean its a base camp ie home as in the camp where they set off to climb Everest.

Apparently its base camp because its just a camp at the base of the mountain? Surely there are multiple base camps then?

There are only two base camps, one in Nepal and one in China. There are limited places where you can climb Everest so it isn't like you can just show up and plop a camp down anywhere you want around the mountain.

If you werent one of the first people to scale the mountain then who even cares

People go and do it now with all sorts of special gear and guides and they leave all their trash and crap up there and its become a really dumb thing

Wasn't there a LINE to pose at the top a few years back? Like the line was so long people could have died if they waited too long from the lack of oxygen? I can't remember the specifics.
