Say, you got a pizza and squirrels run you out the park and made you abandon the pizza to them.
The story is way better than the pizza is. Sometimes people tell me stories they're frustrated about and I'm just thinkig about how the story is way greater than what was lost. You either ate yet another uneventful pizza, or you have a funny short story for life. Those stories are what life is about. Sometimes being frustrated about it is an important part of the story though. If they just told you in a calm monotone that they had to abandon a pizza, you'd think they were weird or lying or something.

As I've grown older, I've come to realize that characters are far more important.

Other guy was also right tho, sometimes your initial response being angry makes for an even funnier story later on. You ever watch those youtube videos where a challenge is trying to be completed. Imagine if they were able to first try the challenge.
