Went back and played 3 to completion and it's mid as fuck. And out of all of them, it's the best one. I remember a friend letting me borrow KZ2 back in the day and I hated that.

What was the appeal of this series again? You know, aside from how good the graphics looked? It was basically Call of Duty: Space Nazi Warfare, with the added benefit of not being as fun to play as a typical CoD game and I haven't played a CoD game since Black-Ops 2.

It also takes a page out of the Rockstar games book of having sluggish controls and annoyingly slow animations because of Realism. Just what I need in my Space Nazi shooter where I'm eviscerating dudes out of existence with my heavy electricity gun.
The story wasn't even good. KZ3 had a wet fart ending and I didn't even bother playing enough of Shadowfall to see if it ends up tying up the loose ends in 3.

Fuck Killzone. I'm glad they threw this franchise in the trashcan to focus on Horizon instead (a game I don't even really care about). You know something's wrong when the best entry of the series is a fucking top-down PSP game.

So you had to play the whole series to come to this conclusion? Lol

I thought Killzone 2 was the peak of the series and even that isn't a particularly great game.

Shadowfall is somehow even worse than 3. It's honestly pretty crazy how much Sony turned their studios around on the PS4. They were putting out so much meh stuff on the PS3.

I've always heard good things about 3, how it's the best one and stuff. After all these years, I finally got around to playing it a few months ago. It was the only one I didn't play and figured it could salvage my feelings for the series.

Fucking nope.

Something that always baffled my mind was the fact that Killzone was always held up as Sony's premiere FPS game franchise throughout the PS3 generation. Meanwhile, Resistance -- a far, FAR better FPS series made by the motherfucking Ratchet & Clank guys -- is sitting right there. And somehow, it was way less popular than Killzone.

What's wrong with the world?

Honestly Resistance was another series that was floundering a bit too. They had the first game which sort of was like an upscaled PS2 era FPS. Then the second game was basically a Halo clone that turned off people who liked the old school feel of the first. The third game is apparently great (and draws from Half-Life apparently?) but by then most people had moved on.

The aliens and weapons do put it above Killzone overall I think. But I think ultimately Killzone 2 and 3 got more attention because of its visuals and that was the only thing it really had over Halo. Which was clearly the sort of franchise Sony really wanted to have before they hit gold with Naughty Dog style cinematic action games and have since given up on trying to have a big FPS franchise.

As much as I love the Resistance games, they did kind of shoot themselves in the foot when they made the big changes to the second one. It kind of tore the fanbase apart. But man, to this day Resistance 2 had one of the best online console MP modes I've ever played.

30 v 30 PVP and 8 player co-op. That game was wild at its peak. That game took up a huge chunk of my middle school life.

But yeah, by the time 3 came out (which didn't even get a big announcement at E3 that year. It had a little throw away teaser at the TGS a few months later) it was too late. At least 3 was a nice ending to the series.

Shut the fuck up, no it's not. They're both trash-garbage, but 3 is only slightly less trash than 2.

Shadow fall is probably the best one imo. That game is okay (but not much better than that).

It's fun for the first two or so levels and then gets less fun the more you play

Yeah you played the peak of it lol. It just gets worse.

One of the prime examples of a mediocre launch game. Crazy the same studio came out with Horizon Zero Dawn.

I loved the series till Killzone Shadowfall.
It started good with the original Killzone on PS2.
Sure the game had issues but it had tons of potential, great characters and a decent story.
The sequel improved on the performance while skimping on story and characters.
The third one was mediocre but still retained that Killzone universe.
Shadowfall was just different.

Tbh... I didn't even care about the story at all. I really don't know what's going on hhahaa.

All I admire is the pew pew pew gameplay and graphics (Shadowfall looks amazing).

I only ever played the first one, and while I did enjoy the immersiveness of the overall presentation it just felt clunky and super linear. There was no way to go even a little bit outside of the very specific path you were intended to take. People calling it a Halo Killer was a total joke
