Yes. Thats why ive been getting white people to say "vinegar" on recording/video and editing out the first syllable and sending it to their employers.

I once lost control and dropped an r bomb at work when someone was pissing me off

I guess I wouldn't want someone to get fired for the same mistake I got away with

I had a coworker once who used the n word. In addition to being racist, he was homophobic (he had a grudge against me initially because he mistakenly believed I was gay), bad at every aspect of his job except 1 thing which I didn't technically even need him to do since I could do it myself, grumpy, bitched about liberals but only had one insult (derrrrrr tHeY dRiVe pRiUsEs), broke several hygene and dress code rules, shit his pants on the job one time (wasn't my shift sp I didn't have to deal with it) and was extremely entitled. I ended up getting him fired, but not for the n word. He had a meltdown one day and pissed off the owner and managers, tben grabbed a knife and held it threatening, staring off into space. I was asked if I felt uncomfortable or unsafe. I said yes to uncomfortable, as well as being on edge, like I was mentally prepared to grab anything in reach to defend myself if he made any sudden movements. He didn't though, and put the knife down after like8 seconds or so. He also hadn't been staring at me, just off, so I doubt he would have done anything. Still, I didn't like the guy, so any evidence against him was always going to be reported at the best opportunity.

Also, it was the hard r version and he said it in a blatantly racist context. "If I wanted to watch a bunch of ______ play basketball, I would just... sorry... If I wanted to watch a bunch of black people play basketball..."

heres my extremely hot take on the n-word in society
people need to not be offended by mere words alone
there is so much more context and nuance in speech then mere aural stimulation
ive seen people of all races refer to each other by that word with zero hostilities arising

Depends.

If it's on the job, 100%.

If it's off the job in their own time? As long as it doesn't come back to the company, it's fine.

I think the way we treat the word like the anti-christ is a bit silly, but I'd say it's certainly a fireable offense to use a racial slur. Proper apologies and context, as in not using a slur directly towards someone or a group in a racist manner, should certainly be a bit more accepted. The people still bashing Pewdiepie like five years later gets a bit silly.

He was. Apparently he had burn scars all over his torso from an incident when he was young and in the military and got wasted and lit himself on fire somehow. I only got a second hand anecdote, but I knew he had been a hardcore alcoholic so it makes sense. I guess he showed back up a few years later (after I had already moved on to a better job) and left a note basically begging for his job back.

Context matters here. A lot.

Is it two co-workers just shooting the shit with each other, both comfortable with the word being used and generally not being overheard by others? Then whatever.

Is it a manager using the word in a meeting? A boss using it with his subordinate? Any form of official written business communication? That should probably not be allowed and should be reprimanded. Reclaimed or not, the word carries far to much emotional charge to be dropped in official business capacity or between superiors and subordinates. Just because the user of the word is black does not mean the people hearing it are comfortable with its use. And if it is their boss/manager then they might not feel they have recourse to push back against it.
