Oh that sonic knights series and Forza: animal quest. What is.

I would imagine most people would have at least heard of Pokmon, I would not expect the average person to recognize individual titles, regions or even the phrase gym leader.

Animal Crossing is obviously more obscure than Pokmon.

except new horizons was everywhere last year to the point where even a presidential candidate used it for a platform and various news shows mentioned it...it became what kept many people sane during the initial period of covid-19

And? Pokmon has a far greater presence outside regular gaming.

Animal Crossing is perhaps a good example of something with a huge fanbase, but that is far less known outside the peripheries of that fanbase.

I wouldn't have been able to guess the second one without the 2020 date, then the only game I remember hearing about from Nintendo recently being animal crossing so I might have been able to guess.

But trainers and gym leaders should have been pretty clear?

I would think to the casual audience that sees ACNH in media would know it's Animal Crossing from screenshots, without knowing the full game title or the gameplay. Heck in media the island building isn't even showcased, I feel it focuses on bug catching, fishing, and decorating.

That Pokemon clue is worded badly at the end; even if you suspected Pokemon due to Trainer and Gym, you'd be completely thrown off by "series that offers Sword and Shield."

You get penalized for wrong answers so you really don't wanna guess.

Political News Outlets aren't the kind to just start talking about video games randomly

but they did just that with animal crossing new horizons

various companies started using new horizons to promote they're product lines and what they were about
