Big spoilers ahead, but I'll tag em.

I'd been really enjoying things to this point; Chapters 7 and 8 felt like the game was hitting its stride in terms of both the plot and combat complexity. But man, the boss fight against Nanba and Ichioda, what a pain in the ass. It recreates the frustration of any Yakuza fight where someone has a gun, but that's not a good thing.

Lost a few times, gave up to grind out some levels, then lost a few more times. I'd heard there's a nasty grind around Chapter 12, but this caught me off guard. I didn't seem to have any answer for Ishioda's ability to do 230 damage on any given turn.

Resorted to looking up help from online, which resulted in me spending an hour doing the management game in order to recruit Eri to the party. That ended up being all the help I needed, but I couldn't help but notice that he didn't seem to use his gun as much.

On the whole, I'm still really liking the game, but that's left a sour taste in my mouth right now.

The business mini-game is pretty much mandatory. You never have money troubles and basically make 3 mil from a single meeting (or 5 mil? I forget). You also get to buy all the items you want. The park sells parts for crafting as well, so there's no reason you shouldn't have maxed gears. Basically money makes all the grinding unnecessary. I beat the game fairly underleveled but not by much because simply playing lvled me up just enough.

I don't think the business mini-game takes that long to complete either. Just take loans early to buy all the best businesses and people, upgrade them as much as you could afford, and you'll always be like 2-5 cycles before the deadline b4 you reach the goal.

Yes. You just keep going through business periods and after the Shareholder Meeting, you'll get 3 million yen, and you can do that over and over.

As an aside, I really like the job system in this game. The way some skills are exclusive to a job and some stay with the character has encouraged me to try out new classes, rather than just taking the obvious best option the whole time.

And yeah, as answered, you get 3 mil every period if you "complete" the mini-game and get more than 3 mil along the way. Your payout incrementally increases, though after you "beat" the mini-game, it hikes from like 1 mil payout to 3 mil. It's basically infinite money, and doing other shit doesn't even remotely compare. If you're like a mahjong god or something, I guess technically you can also mahjong your way to the top too

You do not. Technically you can start the series on any game. I myself started on the 4th game of all things.

Most people (myself included) recommend Yakuza 0 first, but if you want to start on a modern game that's a JRPG, then this one's fine.

No. 0 is the only game I'd played prior, and there are a couple nods to it, but certainly nothing where you'd feel lost for not knowing the previous games.

There are other ways, but buying equips and upgrades and stuff costs waaaay more than 3 mil, and the business mini-game gives you that money in the shortest amount of time imo, unless there was something comparable that could get you more than 10 mil that I missed

Please don't tell me if that eventually happens; I don't wanna be spoiled.

There is a point later in the game where it gives you the option to do a fighting arena before a major mission. I highly recommend you do that arena.

No you don't. I recommend straight EX level for top weapons before the true bonus dungeon. Any higher is gravy.

The main thing I found helpful in that fight is to just focus on Namba first since he had healing. Also either have Kasuga set up to group heal or get yourself an idol.

Then buckle up for the Chapter 12 fight. I was breezing and then that fight hits like a fucking brick wall. It's the only one in the game that I struggled with.

I beat the fight before making this topic guys, lol. Felt like pure chance as to how often Ishioda would use his gun attack; I basically breezed through it with Eri in the party, but also he didn't shoot much.

I'm still not sure I have that Peerless Resolve move; I spent a decent amount of time with Ichiban in the breaker class, so he's only like rank 12 Hero

It's at Job Rank 16 of Hero. I heartily recommend it.

Also it's a red Character Skill instead of a green Job Skill, meaning you can keep it when you switch Jobs.

Get Eri, go gamble until you get the good card weapon for the Dealer class, switch her to it, Darts Airstrike everything, you win. Eventually get the upgradable cards and push them until they pass the one you gambled for.
