true. I think the real reason is: they set the first one in WW1 just to make it different from Captain America First Avenger. and at the time they didn't have much of a plan after that. then they made Justice League and Batman vs Superman, and they tried to explain it away with "she was in hiding that whole time". then they make an 80's adventure and plot holes start to show up

If anything, that almost makes it seem like Wonder Woman is following trends.
Captain America: "I starred in a World War II superhero movie." Wonder Woman: "That's great. I'm starring in a World War I movie." Captain Marvel: "I'm in an empowering film set in the nostalgic 90s." Wonder Woman: "Cool. I dig it. You know I'm set to be in an empowering 80s nostalgia film."
