cop goes to check on why a man had turned on his car in the middle of the night. for some reason a neighbor called the cops just cause someone turned on their car at 1 in the morning. cop comes to garage and yells at man inside. victim has a phone in his hand and then cop loses his mind and shoots victim.

cop has been relieved of duty but apparently that is not the same as fired. he is still being paid

In theory it really should be that simple, but that is predicated on cops actually (and not just theoretically) being held to some level of accountability. Cops dont get fired, they get transferred to be some other towns problem.

Tangential question- is there any other profession that has qualified immunity? A surgeon ( for example) that removed the wrong organ (left kidney versus right) might keep their job but would be very liable for a lawsuit

If a surgeon did something criminal like the hysterectomy guy in Georgia then malpractice insurance wouldn't cover it and he'd just go to jail. Same thing applies to cops ostensibly. Qualified immunity protects from civil lawsuits. If a cop does something criminal then they are criminally liable.

They get away with it because of nepotism and corruption because they're the ones running criminal courts. They're not running the civil courts though which is why they have qualified immunity for that.

Body cam off when responding to anything should be an automatic felony. Straight up.

If they're involved in a shooting or altercation that ends in them firing rounds into or at someone while body cam is off then they should get no benefit of the doubt and be treated exactly as what they would be otherwise: a criminal suspect and thrown in jail

It has a limited battery power qnd memory storage. Especially if a cop works a 16. Sometimes it turns on automatically. But Im not too sure how it works after that

I'm not saying it's right, I've seen up close how they work and how they operate. Just giving insight dude. They are still being upgraded and worked on, some departments have access to better body cams than others.

It sucks that whenever I hear that the police said it happened x way, I automatically think its BS because theyve been proven as liars literally all year. Cant trust them literally at all.
