Easy?

No.

It's difficult, and expensive.

You would need to go to a digital forensics service which on average costs anywhere in the high thousands to tens of thousands of dollars, and hardly ever work with random consumers who just want data.

Describe dead?

There's lots of software that can pull data from a corrupted drive but if it simply doesn't spin, you aren't going to get very far.

I use a SATA to USB device in addition with software to read data from thrashed drives.

But if the hardware is too beat up, your data may be as good as gone. Disassembling the drive usually doesn't work often, in my experience.

Full mechanical failure? Not easy or cheap.

If it's just corrupt it's easy, hook it up to a USB device and copy/paste. They run probably $20
