How did nobody tell George that maybe that was a bad idea.

There was nothing from Anakin's childhood that either couldn't have been told in a short flashback (being taken away from his Mom by the Jedi) or have went over way better if he was an older teen or adult (meeting Padme and Palpatine).

It was the single biggest thing that put the prequel trilogy in a more awkward position than it needed to be. I think the entire reason it happened was because George had this weird fascination that Anakin was the chosen one so they needed a movie of the Jedi discovering him even though when it comes to the character of Anakin it's really not all that interesting. People wanted to see how he became Darth Vader. That's the goal and focus. Instead they needed stuff like the Clone Wars to flesh out things that should have been told in the prequel trilogy. Ah well.

I agree. In fact I might be wrong but I thought that in the old movies they implied he was much older when he was discovered. I also think he was supposed to be closer in age to Obi Wan. Not a little kid meeting an adult Obi Wan. But like the same age as him

It's hilarious how "fans" cry more about how Luke was a complex character instead of a boring superhero in Last Jedi than how terrible Anakin was in the prequels.

I can only assume the point was to make the fall to the dark side that much more jarring.

Going from some sweet, innocent kid to the Dark Lord of the Sith would be more emotionally compelling than from an angsty, petulant, arrogant teen.

The execution was bad though.

I think it would have worked better if they had the same actor for all three movies. It just doesn't really work because I'm not thinking about Jake by the time I'm watching Revenge of the Sith. There's not really much linking the roles by that point because they have to skip so much time.

It inspired the PS1 podracing game, which was great.

But I always say I don't really praise the prequels for things the extended universe takes advantage of and makes better.

How else were we going to learn that Darth Vader built the robot that his son randomly comes into contact with 35 years later, even though it makes no sense that Alderanian royalty would use a severely outdated non-manufacture line created robot for their official business.
