There were also the reports of SARS-COV2 being detected when they tested stored samples of pneumonia patients from early 2019 and at least one in 2018 in Europe. I'm sure once it was discovered in China, it was already spread in other countries so it wouldn't have been possible to prevent its spread to just China.
