Ignoring the whining about buzzword "sjw"

If I were an employee and wanted to wear a poppy, I would maybe use a different flower since it sounds like they only really banned poppies. Wearing it the day of, people will know what you mean even if it isn't a poppy

Oh no, as a Whole Foods employee, I can tell you about this, and they've banned any and every symbol that could be construed as political: including rainbows, which were previously allowed. In fact, you cannot wear outfits with more than four colors or anything floral-printed. Or anything that might be commented on. We must all be a blank canvass for customers to project "Whole Foods" on.

This is them responding to employees(like me) who pushed them to allow us to wear BLM stuff(or even just their boiler-plate "Racism has no place here" statement) after Amazon said it supported BLM. It fell apart because most of the co-workers in the group were satisfied when they announced a commission to "look into it". I hate being right.

Exactly. Remembrance day is a national holiday in Canada and it's normal for people to wear the poppy a week or two prior. It is also an important fundraising opportunity for legions across the country who support veterans.

I don't shop at whole foods, and I don't think I'll start to anytime soon.

Your guess is as good as mine. I personally don't think they care: this about them increasing the amount of control they have over workers and creating more ways they can use to get rid of anyone they deem a troublemaker. They've long used the dress code selectively.

Yep. They must never have seen a Canadian. Most years you only see the rare person not wearing a poppy and I always assume it just fell off lol.

I guess it might be a bit heavy-handed, but being as neutral as possible on the clock is better than allowing wiggle room that could be used to argue wearing MAGA hats on the clock.

Yeah, I really don't have a problem with a business saying no supporting causes at work.

Wearing poppies isn't a cause though. It's a national tradition that coincides with a holiday.

Please don't ever associate wearing a poppy with maga. One is a tradition to pay tribute to those who fought in the war for our freedom in association with a nationally celebrated holiday. The other is peddling trump garbage.

I dunno if either of you guys are canadian but at least around here I would say not wearing one is way more of voicing some sort of cause/agenda than wearing one is. It's not like something only big military fanatics do, it's everywhere. people at work, people out shopping or whatever, kids at school, etc etc. I almost feel like if you see a random person they're more likely to be wearing one than not.

I don't mean to make light of remembrance day with this comparison or anything but my instinctive reaction to seeing this being forbidden is kinda the same as if a store said you can't have pumpkin themed decorations around halloween because they don't want to support a cause. I'd just go: "...........what????"

If something can be remotely viewed as political, there's always a path that can be argued to reach the extreme political viewpoints. I don't necessarily agree this is political, but easiest just to keep things strictly to work clothes only in this weird political climate.

Again, not a cause. It's a national tradition that has existed for nearly 100 years (will be exactly 100 in 2021).

This is like saying Santa hats during Christmas are political. Or bunny ears during Easter.

Sure, Remembrance Day is a much more somber and serious day than any of those, but the poppy is still it's traditional symbol.

Is this accurate or not?

pay tribute to those who fought in the war for our freedom

Cause isn't exactly the right word, but you know what I'm saying. Cause, ideal, movement, fond reminiscence. Whatever this particular thing should be labeled as, it's still not wrong for a business to say just wear your uniform to work.

The Government should absolutely not be getting involved in this is any way, shape, or form.

Especially a Conservative one that ran on businesses in Ontario being over-regulated and has removed numerous business-related government regulations while in office.
