Welcome to blah

The game is simple. The two* listed characters are placed in an (imaginary) location with a variety of (imaginary) environments, kind of like a picture in a child's schoolbook that describes different types of geological features. Within a ten mile radius, there is an (imaginary) urban downtown, exurbs, plains, snow-clad mountains at the edge, dry plains, etc. Fighters start wherever is most appropriate for them, but feel increasingly compelled to seek out their opponent and fight. Strong-willed fighters can try to hold out in their chosen environment for longer... eventually, all will succumb and actively search for the other to battle.

To participate, just vote in bold for whichever character you believe will win. Giving reasoning is optional, but please be polite and read what others have said and carefully make your decision. I'll ping the nominators (they can opt out) to give arguments if they wish.

"Fight"

it'd be kinda hilarious if Bigby managed to bs his way past two Death characters, but I don't feel like this one will be as willing to give him the time of day? not sure

On one hand, this Death is probably a lot more aggressive than the Pratchett one.

On the other hand, Bigby invented his own missions during World War II, prevented the Nazis from recruiting and rebuilding Frankenstein's Monster, and changed the course of the war in favor of the allies so that Fabletown could just not be screwed with. So if there's a "game of wits" situation, I trust his ability to stay competitive.

wasn't it being argued that could be a thing with Yujiro if he was less aggressive

Bigby is less aggressive and clever enough to know when he's outmatched and try something else, so why not

It was never a game of wits, it was Death being all "I don't feel like fighting, wanna perform [task] for me and we'll call the match a win for you"

oh, I guess it depends on what he's willing to do then?

if Death is like 'you really don't have a chance here but kill this village of innocents and you can live, whatever' will he be pragmatic enough to do that or will he just think that's terrible and attack Death anyway

disclaimer: I don't actually know what kind of deals this Death makes

Yeah, there's no way that Bigby has the power to kill Death, and Death would resent being forced to fight and wouldn't go out of his way to kill him. It's not a matter of cleverness, but diplomacy and willing to deal with literally Death, and having the stomach to do whatever twisted shit he asks. That being said, if Bigby wouldn't be willing to hurt innocents or whatever you'd figure Death would want, if you think he's deft enough to trick Death into thinking he would be, I suppose that counts as wit. Not really the same game though

pretty much. Death asked one of the protags to be Death for a day one time and another to kill his own brother, so he's more or less shown the kind of sadism in his dealmaking you'd expect from the reaper

Would the deal be absolute? Death is beaten in actual Fables by tricking him, in his overconfidence to make a wager, and then forcing him into a third option when he's left trapped in a bag and then no one can die for a day and everything gets screwy. Because I am almost certain Bigby would look for a third way and track down any story-based item even tangentially related to Death while doing what needs to be done. Because, like, he'd probably kill innocents for the greater good, but not his own family or those he cares about, and would look for any other way to get a one-up on his competition.

Like would Death be bound by his word, or would it be in the form of a verbal contract where Bigby could go "oh I fulfilled the conditions. In a manner of speaking, at least." Because he absolutely will go for the latter.

Death

It's an odd thought and triangle of power here, I don't think that Bigby will be able to corner this other Death via non-violent methods versus the Discworld Death, but on the same note, if it was Bill Door (Discworld Death) vs Supernatural Death, I would have given it to Discworld Death, due to his superior experience in having fought Death before.

Death. Bigby, based on his past, doesn't seem to me that he'd be willing to even play at making this kind of deal due to past regrets, and I don't think he's the kind of guile fantasy hero who would trick Death into a sack
