Cause I know it's happened to people. But I feel like it's way less likely that people were actually thinking about it and it coincidentally happened at the same time. So in theory, my odds to not get murdered are significantly better if I'm thinking about it.

I been heavily Considering this. Mostly because I want to take my dog to the woods and stay overnight for funzies. But my dogs a giant pussy, so it's just me out there for myself. Plus, what the topic is about. Might give me sone piece of mind. There's really no down side, since I don't have the kind of mind that would play with it outside of the shooting range. No kids here, so it would probably just stay by my bed at night and up in a cabinet during the day. I also sleep up against a window. Like my bed is pushing up against the window seal and I sleep on that side >_>. You could literally grab me without coming into my house lol

But then my dog can't come and go. He barely does, but I like him having the option to get a drink and what not. He would probably alert me anyway by barking. He just isn't gonna provide any protection after. At best, he runs. At worst, he has a pathetic effort and dies immediately.

I often think about horrific and traumatic ways of dying while trying to sleep.

Car accidents are a big one. Being trapped in the car while its on fire and slowly burning to death, or going into water and trapped and the water is slowly filling up and you try your hardest but you can't get out and you drown. The thing thats really disturbing is these aren't rare methods of death, they have happened many times through modern history, and they could realistically happen to you or me. Thats legit how we could go out, young and before our time, absolutely terrified and filled with regret.

I dont sleep well. :(

Alone, with forementioned pussy ass dog companion. 3 bedroom house. I only use my bathroom upstairs. One room upstairs is a guest room and the other is full of my stuff and all the stuff my sister left behind when she moved on. Lots of places for murderers to plan how to murder me undisturbed. I also never go in my basement and my backdoor is holding on by pretty much nothing. Luckily there is a tough door between the backhall and kitchen. My front door is also super weak >_>. I'm basically asking to be murdered

Make it pretty obvious on the outside that you do have a dog. Anyone considering breaking into a home will normally be deterred if they believe a dog lives there. Whoever can potentially break into your home doesn't want a dog barking, doesn't know what kind of dog and it's an extra obstacle they probably don't want to deal with. Maybe leave a couple steel bowls outside, or a leash somewhere outdoors that can be seen. Things that tell passers by that a dog lives there. In the temporary, you can buy a decent taser online for under $30, and the loud cracking and popping alone is enough to scare someone that might break in, it's something you can get fast and inexpensive for the moment.

True. And I already got that covered. That is my one line of defence. My dog is half pit, do he is muscular. And I put his couch up to the big front window. So as soon as someone comes up to the house, he runs up to the window and starts barking in direct sight of them. I guess the way he wilds out would be intimidating, if you don't actually know him

How much does a simple home defense pistol even cost? Im a skinny dude. I'd want something with very little recoil. I mean, I feel like even if I fucked my wrist up or something, I'd just fight through the pain like I did when I broke my hand body boxing. But Id rather just have a low risk of that even happening >_>.

Cause I imagine, even when you practice using it, once there is pressure added to the situation, you have to account for maybe stress fucking up your ability to secure it perfectly before firing. I wouldn't want to only be prepared for the best case scenario.

you can get some pretty cheap deterrents. stuff like fake cameras you can put up outside under the rain gutters. automatic light switches that turn on and off at certain times, beware of dog or home security signs (do NOT use "guns inside" or "you will be shot" ones). if you want to go a little extra you can put security film on your windows and replace your door/hinges, locks and frames with steel ones. and obviously a real security system. lastly a good ol 12ga under your bed always makes one feel nice and cozy.

Go for something like an M&P Shield
They run around the 400 dollar range now but pre corona you could get them for 350 all day.

They are compact enough that you can carry and recoil is light that anyone can handle it

Like I mentioned above then, you can get a low end but effective taser for under $30 on Amazon. It's better than a slingshot and when you hear one pop and see the power behind it, it might make you feel a bit more protected.

how much is too much in terms of a firearm? if $400 is too pricey you can still find surplus handguns in the $250 range along with hi-points around $200 and long guns like single shot 12, 20 or 410ga shotguns or .22's (dont under estimate them) in the $150 areas, maybe less if you check out the pawn shops.

Just buy one of those door bar rods (google master lock door bar) for 20 bucks. Put it against your bedroom door. And have whatever defense tool by your side handy (you choose). That way, it will alleviate your worries of getting murdered in your sleep. It takes a good multiple hardy pushes to undo the bar (vibration will eventually cause the rubber feet to push back until you can open the door) so it should wake you up in time to grab your defense item.

ps., I'm exactly like you tc. I always have the same thought even though statistically it won't happen to a male unless its an attempted robbery with murder. And yes, I do have one of those door bars against my bedroom door with the exception of a 9mm handgun in a slider on my bed table and a 300 blackout rifle under my bed both with red dots.
