Welcome to the King of Fighters 2020 (NOT MERCS) Simulated Character Battle Tournament!

The game is simple. The two* listed characters are placed in an (imaginary) location with a variety of (imaginary) environments, kind of like a picture in a child's schoolbook that describes different types of geological features. Within a ten mile radius, there is an (imaginary) urban downtown, exurbs, plains, snow-clad mountains at the edge, dry plains, etc. Fighters start wherever is most appropriate for them, but feel increasingly compelled to seek out their opponent and fight. Strong-willed fighters can try to hold out in their chosen environment for longer... eventually, all will succumb and actively search for the other to battle.

To participate, just vote in bold for whichever character you believe will win. Giving reasoning is optional, but please be polite and read what others have said and carefully make your decision. I'll ping the nominators (they can opt out) to give arguments if they wish.

oh yeah you know I'm thrilled for another Homestuck match

can he survive some long-distance nuking? And if he can, does he have good range of his own or enough speed to catch Tor reliably?

Conditional immortality aside, no. A nuke would probably kill him. I have no idea how fast Tor is, but he can fly between planets so range shouldn't be an issue.

Tor doesn't literally have a nuke on his mech, but the phantom hammer laser is on the same level as John's tornado drilling thing from last topic and the rest of his weaponry isn't far behind that.

John Egbert

Homestuck is OP.

John can make himself intangible with "the windy thing" and is FTL so yeah. Tor could potentially catch him off guard with a nuke (though I don't think that is likely given the shit John deals with) but that wouldn't keep him down since that'd probably be considered a death that wasn't heroic or just so John would just get back up a few seconds later

'John can't be killed unless his death meets this subjective condition' sounds like something that shouldn't have a place in this

you are never going to get a consensus on whether or not his death is heroic enough to 'count'

Yeah, I've just kinda been putting that to the side for my consideration since that's really not an argument I want to deal with.

anyways what kind of durability does he have going for him, light speed and intangibility don't matter if he dies before he can use them

It mainly just means he can't be blitz'd or sneak attacked. It has to be a straight fight

He got blasted by HiC's eye lasers

Said eye lasers are capable of destroying planets / moons
https://www.homestuck.com/story/5839
https://www.homestuck.com/story/5843

Not sure if she was nerfed or not at that time though (been awhile), but if she were she'd likely be on Sollux level if not vastly better and his lasers pack a punch.

As for other stuff well...he got punched out of the comic once, pelted with toilets and bathtubs, rocketed through a wall, smashed by ogres and such.

I'm just going by what Google says but aren't Homestuck planets way smaller than our planets, like, closer to continents than actual planets and moons

that's a huge step down from planet level durability and at that point I'd call it a toss-up, Tor has a good chance if he opens with his strongest weapons, which he generally does

https://www.reddit.com/r/homestuck/comments/3a78zy/how_big_are_the_planets/?utm_source=amp&utm_medium=

yeah, this one thing uses math power to figure out the size of whichever planet this is and it doesn't sound that big

saying Egbert has planet level durability is like saying Donkey Kong is strong enough to punch the real moon out of the sky

going with Tor for now, I don't feel like John survives the first barrage here, and he definitely doesn't come out of it in fighting shape. I'll probably change this if he gets something more reliable for durability though

There's absolutely no way Tor gets John in the first barrage considering the fact that his resurrective abilities explicitly point out sneak attacks/being attacked before actually preparing to fight as something that will cause a revive, John can go intangible, and his own durability isn't exactly chump level
