I've seen a few over the last few days where there's a guy who said on social media he didn't want to wear a mask, then sometime later news came out that they're in an ICU gasping for air or even died, and people post the Nelson "ha ha" picture, ridicule them etc It's fucking sick.

Is it a tragedy? He knew the pandemic situation, knew the life and death risks and still decided to not only be a moron himself, but endanger everyone around him.

It sucks, but it's difficult to have sympathy for those kinds of people.

I like to avoid certain topics the make me feel other... sure I might peek in, maybe post something from left field, but by all that is holy I do not condone any of this

That's not really cheering them on, that's them having no sympathy for someone who didn't do the bare minimum to look out for themselves, their family, and their community. Its because Texas and Florida are being hit hard. When it was NY people weren't cheering it. Heck California is spiking too but they don't get same attention as Texas and Florida.

Not anti-mask. The masks don't protect you. i didn't discourage people not to wear them, just to understand why they were wearing them. People such as yourself who responded with insults and ad-hominem attacks and ended up with your account warned and suspended were misinformed and it's dangerous thinking to believe a plain cloth mask prevents you from being infected because it gives you a false sense of security.

Masks do protect you by preventing the viruses from escaping your airholes and infecting others, thereby indirectly preventing you from getting the virus any further. If there's any data suggesting otherwise, which there isn't, isn't because just wearing masks is not enough. Most countries are enforcing masks but the ones truly getting better are ones that enacted strict stay at home policies and contact tracing as well as bolstering essentials delivery services.

Not really rocket science but if you're stuck at step 1 when we need to be at 50, don't come wondering later on why the virus isn't controlled yet

Look - this isn't complicated. The masks, when worn by the vast majority, stop the spread on a macro scale. A plain cloth mask does not prevent you individually from being infected and provides minimal if any protection at all. This is all I ever said, people like 'I Like Toast' come on and have rage-tantrums when they hear this because they interpret it as 'anti-mask'. Before responding try to take a deep breath, calm down and read what the person is actually saying.

Because this can give you a false sense of security and lead to you disregarding more important public health measures such as physical distancing. I have personal experience with people who thought they didn't need to distance and could stand however close to people because they were wearing a cloth mask.

I think I just saw a topic on ce about how people on ce are cheering in covid deaths. And I was like nah, ce is terrible but surely they would draw a line at wanting fo spread a deadly disease. And yet here we have someone pushing antimask. Because he would rather people break social distancing without mask than break social distancing with mask.

Most East Asian countries are doing none of that and are doing the best of all countries. People largely voluntarily wear masks, but there is no stay at home and schools/businesses still operate.

I tell you that I'm not anti-mask, I'm saying you should know why you're wearing the mask, so that it doesn't lead to ignoring more important public health measures (we diminished covid where I live, a major province, one of the largest in North America with no mask laws, just physical distancing laws) because you feel invincible with the mask

Then, you post the exact same thing you did, I don't know why you did this exactly to be honest. But you should read what people respond to you with so you can in turn respond intelligently.

Then, you say I'm responsible or cheering on covid deaths because what I said makes me anti-mask, even though I think masks should be worn where appropriate (example: you don't need one when standing in the middle of a field by yourself, when you're alone at home etc), understand why they should be worn, and wear one myself in indoor settings (I don't congregate outdoors so haven't come across this use for myself yet but would wear one if I had to be in a large outdoor gathering for some reason).

Anyway, I'm not going to respond to you until you start behaving yourself. I'd suggest take a deep breath, maybe get away from the computer for 30 minutes, calm down and if you want to act properly we can have a discussion here.

i can't help but look at these people and see them as fundamentally weak. it's not their fault the misinformation they were fed was so appealing. i pity their ignorance and conceit. it's easy to be smug when you have no fucking clue what you're talking about.

they were told what they wanted to hear. that's not their fault, and it isn't really anyone's fault that nobody was around to break the bubble they were living in, either. it just sucks.

we got revealed the truth the other day. all those times i went to safeway thinking i was protected i was wrong. need others to wear the mask before it's safe.

probably wouldn't matter for a week my leg and wrist are busted from that pothole.

??? Korea still does contact tracing and curfews. They nipped it in the bud so they don't need stay at home to begin with.

However, for countries that didn't nip it in the bud, they've needed that many drastic measures to keep the numbers low enough to be manageable by masks and a few others. Heck even Wuhan with their authoritarian ways still had a resurgence because they've laxed the rules.

Also look up Czech Republic. They flattened the numbers drastically, went back to just masks, surged back up in cases.

It's basically no joke. If you didn't nip it in the bud and enact strict 2 week quarantine to any outsiders like Korea did, and the entire citizen base followed suit like people with actual common sense, you simply don't control the virus and lose a bunch of people

Korea didn't have everyone quarantine. Neither did Japan (where I live) or Taiwan, or Singapore, etc. We never had to have everything shut down, nothing open, don't go outside, etc. because people here voluntarily wore masks and didn't act like idiots. The Western methods failed everywhere and still Westerners insist they work rather than admit they were wrong about masks. It's ridiculous.
