Other than their administration you've got:

  • CDC
  • Hospitals, doctors, university health departments publishing information
  • States, local government publishing information
  • International organizations

Think it's time to focus on personal responsibility? People know what is responsible behaviour during the pandemic it doesn't matter what Trump tweets.

I blame the Trump administration for making things worse. I still think it would be bad under Obama/Hillary/Biden, just because 40% of Americans are ignorant and proud of it.

Hes the president. He holds influence over a lot of people. And he actively admits to withholding tests to lower covid case numbers. And hes yet to do anything on the federal level to deal with a national problem.

Is he the only person to blame? No. But he shoulders a fair amount of responsibility, as much as hed like to say it isnt his problem.

Trump's stupid messages are only a part of the problem.

There was a plan and a budget for the government to follow. He just didn't fucking use it.

Do they though?

You have Donald for months downplay the virus. He said people saying it was a big deal was a Democratic hoax. That right there tells his base and idiots to disregard people who have been saying this virus was a big deal.

You have Donald Trump demand states open up against the orders of health officials. That undermines the health officials, the people who say what is and isn't safe. Once again that tells his base and idiots to ignore what health officials say.

Now you have Donald Trump demand his rallies be held at full capacity, erase all warnings to social distance and refuses to wear a mask or ask his followers to wear a mask.

Yeah people need to be personally responsible, but they are normal people. They need to given the best information to make the responsible decision, and their president and hero undermines and mocks the information regularly. The real question you should be asking is when do Trumpers stop giving him so much slack and admit that he has undermined health officials and played a part misinforming the public.

Forever.

The fact that he originally called the virus a hoax is enough of a case to blame every spike on the president, even if it isn't entirely his fault.

Hospitals were not prepared, despite having ample time and information to do so.
Cities had no direction or protocol to contain existing cases.

The fact that BLM riots happened during all this will also reflect on Trump's weak ability to lead.

It'll probably go down in American history as the worst blundering of a national crisis we've ever seen. Not only due to the lack of initial preparation and active effort to suppress it, but the abject denial and refusal to take steps to contain it afterwards. Trump will forever be seen as responsible for the deaths of well over 100,000 Americans, an economic crisis near on par with the Great Depression, and a fragmentation of states to an extent we haven't seen since the Civil War.

The absolute worst thing is that this isn't some secret; there's a mountain of irrefutable evidence showcasing his culpability, but there are millions of people who'd rather cut off their nose to spite their face.

K - but at what point do you just admit he fucked up the original response and admit that the general public has all the information they need on covid that is found in many other resources available than the Trump administration, and people have to start taking personal responsibility to stop the spread? This reminds me of the 40 year olds on the r/NEET board still blaming their parents for all their failures. At some point you need to put it behind you and push forward.

I mean it's hard to ignore Trump when he says things like 'if we tested less people, there's be less cases' or whatever and that isn't even an isolated moment for him. "Just a flu" became far too common just by him saying it. We also can't ignore how he acted in the early months when it was becoming more and more of an issue.

Now he isn't solely responsible for this pandemic and all of its deaths, but it is his responsibility to minimize the damage to the best of his ability. Not go around having big indoors rallies in states with spiking cases and refusing to wear a mask and making "jokes" about the crisis.

Trump has spent the last 4 years telling his voterbase that you can't trust what news and scientists say. You can absolutely lay blame on Trump and his administration for the disastrous handling of the virus at all levels.

This is sort of what I'm getting at with the personal responsibility thing. If you're ignoring literally every other organization in the world other than Trump and just listening to what he says, that's not being responsible as an adult. That's going through life like an irresponsible dumb fuck.

Donald Trump turning a pandemic into a political argument meant that people who support Donald Trump were far less likely to trust actual science and medical professionals when they disagree with him. I'm not arguing that those people aren't ignorant as fuck, because they definitely are, but acting as though Trump holds no responsibility in this is also ignorant.

We're talking about what's happening now, not what happened at the beginning. Mistakes were made early in the year and things have been clarified and corrected. This is what I'm saying - it's almost July and people are still blaming covid spreading now because Trump called it a hoax 6-7 months ago, or the WHO said something wrong about masks in January, when we all know now how it spreads and what you can do to stop the spread.

I get it and we're going in circles now. Trump's response ever since he stopped the task force meetings have been shit. But, my whole point, is the information is out there. It's like blaming a bad high school teacher because they didn't tell you something when you could easily look it up from 1000 different sources on the internet. Actually it's worse than that because the real news is all over the TV, everyone knows about. You're being willfully ignorant to accept Trump's shit.
