How easy to use or cumbersome is it?

Is it simply a matter of me and my friend logging into each other's Steam account on our own computers and registering the computer for family sharing?

I know you can't play the same game at the same time, but some language I saw vaguely made it seem like if I was playing a single game on my own library, my friend would be locked out of playing any other game on my library. Is that the case?

To install a game from my friend's library, do I have to log into his account on my computer each time? Or is it enough that his account has registered my PC and it's more of a set it and forget it situation?

Is there anything else that makes it inconvenient or not as amazing at is sounds?

These are both correct.

Once you do the initial set-up it's all very easy. You can see the full list of games from the shared library and install/uninstall as you wish. It's legit as amazing as it sounds which is probably why Valve stopped acknowledging its existence within a month of rolling it out.

Correct. Think of it as "the library is in use" since that's exactly how Steam looks at it.

Your friend can't boot any of your games while you're playing any of your games. If you boot a game while your friend is in the middle of a game, it gives him a ~5 minute warning so he can wrap up w/e he's doing.
