if i remember right, the virus is too new to really know what it's long term effects are/can be. Most information right now is speculative.

So it appears now that COVID is actually a blood infection rather than a respiratory disease. So it's possible it could damage your immune system. However! Because it's a blood infection, it might actually be easier to treat and the fatality rate can be drastically reduced.

I don't know about permanently compromising your immune system, but I have heard that during infection, it can hijack your immune system and turn it against itself, rendering the afflicted mostly (if not completely) defenseless against other pathogens until the body has had time to recuperate, assuming they survive in the first place.

Where did you read that? I know it can permanently damage organs, which likely leaves people more susceptible to other diseases but that's not the same thing.

It was all over the news early April. They compare it to HIV because it attacks T Cells in similar fashion.

I don't mean to be rude but no shit? That's whAt it's like to be immunocompromised in general. You're inherently more vulnerable to most things and diseases that won't kill most can kill you.

btw if this is true, which you all had better hope it's not and I'm inclined to think it is not, then we are in deep crap.

It's especially worse given that many autoimmune diseases are from over activity (excessive white blood cell production, constant inflammation)and the medication suppresses that. Basically modern medication to help treat arthritis, skin cirrhosis, etc, actually increase the risk of a harmful covid infection.

I don't think the long term effects of Corona Virus are well understood.

Looking at "2% fatality rate" and thinking it's fine is a very dangerous perspective to take.

afaik, it was more or less the reverse with the spanish flu. it was actually your immune reaction that tended to kill you, so people with strong immune systems were more likely to die. (not sure of the specific numbers).

Apparently this Corona virus can lay dormant in your body much like HIV and Herpes.

Which means if it gets to your brain, it'll be stuck there and if it's stuck there that means we'll probably get a lot more cases of Alzeimers and Dementia in the future.

Our future is going to suck isn't it?
