It's kinda abused tbh but the point of bail is to be posted. Excessive bail is unconstitutional. The idea is that 1) if the person posts the cash bond, there's enough economic incentive to comply with court orders and come back to court or 2) if a bondsman posts the bond, there's enough incentive for the bondsman to make the defendant comply with court orders and come back to court. What you're not supposed to do is just set a bond so high it can never be posted.
