The FFVIIR haters seem to be few and far between nowadays, even if they're loud about it.

I man if you're gonna blow up a 40 hour story to 130 it better have some more characterisation.

I think less is more is the better approach to storytelling but the fans seem to want graphics and excess style. (Which hey i get that, just don't think it should come with the cost of bad pacing)

Everyone I've interacted with has loved it. Seems like a vocal minority do not.

To be honest I'm sure there were people like me who were overly negative at the start, I mean this was the beginning:

Chapter 1: great but already played in the demo
Chapter 2: walking around, ok...
Chapter 3: great but I remember being really unsettled by the fleshing-out of Sector 7 knowing what was eventually going to happen to it, I wasn't sure what to make of it being expanded with all these new areas, it was a weird feeling.
Chapter 4: nice character development but again, was kind of meh
Chapter 5: Paddinga
Chapter 6: Paddinja

I hated Chapter 6 so much and I was really feeling down on the game, I remember even posting as much in the Remake playthrough topic. I think Chapter 7 started to turn it around (capping on a great boss fight) but it was really Chapter 8 onwards that I fell in love with the game. Aerith was really perfect.

So those early chapters suffered from the uncertainty of what they were aiming for/where they were going, my own inflated expectations for the game, and probably a good amount of my not being great with the battle system increasing the frustration. Loved my hard mode playthrough from start to finish and am looking forward to future (PS5??) playthroughs though, for sure.

Actually it made me really want to replay the original game badly, just don't have the time to yet...

I think my only complaint was sector 5 sucked compared to sector 7

I don't hate the game but there are some serious issues with what they changed, and I'm not even talking the Whispers.

Of course I'm only on chapter 12 so that can change, too.

I think some of the changes are a bit too much and some parts dragged on a bit too long. I get that Midgar was a good point to stop, but some of the chapters dragged on without really having any content.

Man is it great beyond that though.
