Yes, because the top is higher (and busier) and the floor is lower. The average is probably about the same in terms of both mean and median but there are those larger gaps.

It feels like there's only a handful of games in the top tier this time around compared to in GOTD 1.

It also seems to me like there are fewer games in the discussion for "Game of the Decade" of the '10s as opposed to the '00s.

no, the big difference is that there is one game (possibly two) that is clearly stronger than every other game in the contest

beyond that it's about the same
