How to protect others
The best thing you can do to prevent spreading COVID-19 is to wash your hands frequently with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds. If none is available, use hand sanitizer with a minimum of 60% alcohol base.
To protect others, you should also:

• stay at home
• maintain a 2-metre physical distance from others
• when physical distancing cannot be maintained, consider wearing a non-medical mask or homemade face covering
• avoid touching your face, mouth, nose or eyes

Wearing a homemade facial covering/non-medical mask in the community has not been proven to protect the person wearing it and is not a substitute for physical distancing and hand washing.

Regardless of what the science says, if they make people feel safer than who cares? Practicing social distancing is the must, if someone wants to wear a mask on top of that then who cares. Feeling safer out in public is important right now for times when you need to get out.

It also says there's no evidence or reason to believe at the moment it protects you from getting the virus from someone else.

Who cares. the person who is wearing it because they think it will protect them is possibly an asymptomatic carrier themselves without knowing. So regardless, they are better off wearing one anyways to minimise them spreading it regardless of what their intention was to wear their wifes panties on their face in public.

So let me try and see if I get this straight.

Yesterday, I am called a covid troll because I say these cloth masks don't protect you but rather protect you from spreading your own germs. People get outraged because they think it protects them. Fine.

Today, I post something from health Canada showing what I said was true, that the masks are useful for not infecting others but not for protecting yourself. Then I still get ganged up on because...I don't know why. Apparently some people aren't reading and thinking I'm ordering people not to wear masks or something.

Should we get billy beans to weigh in on this?

I'd say the problem is that some people feel invulnerable because they put a mask on. Wearing is better than not though

the masks are social engineering. they are there to make you conscious of what you do in public. this isn't spelled out because people in general are fucking stupid and will become upset if they feel like they're being 'misled', even if its to keep them safe from their stupidity.

coincidentally, since i've seen people bitching about it in other threads, the WHO used social engineering early on to discourage people from hoarding the limited number of legitimately protective n95 masks since it was getting to the point where hospitals that actually needed them couldn't get any. it backfired because they weren't specific enough with their suggestions.
