We all know it's good for your dog to be let out and have a good bark, but how long is the right length of time?

Three of the five houses bordering my back yard have dogs. I also have dogs.

Somehow all of us always let our dogs out at the same damn time every damn day and once one starts barking they all start barking and it goes for like 15 minutes.

my dog doesn't bark. whoever had him before peta snatched him up beat the fuck out of him, so he's always been afraid to vocalize. most he does is growl in his sleep and fear yelp when someone knocks.

basset hound we used to have though, he yelled a lot. good 5/10 minutes of yelling at random people outside made him happy.

Barking at random passerby or animals, no limit. Barking at neighbor cooking out or something else unobtainable, 5-10 minutes. Someone was always out with our dog in the yard, dont know the answer for unattended.

As long as she isn't getting vicious with the neighbor dogs, I don't got any problem. She likes to come in eventually on her own though.

My dog is an indoor dog but she gets 2-3 hours of outdoor time a day, weather permitting. I stay out there with her because I'm usually spending time out there anyway. If she gets after a squirrel or someone's walking in the lot behind my house, I'll let her get a few barks out but I don't let her bark for any prolonged amount of time because I'm not a bad neighbor.

oh god I used to have a neighbor like this. let their dog out and it would just bark for a solid hour. just barked at the wind or something.

dog barks when it wants something. even random passer-goers. but i prefer to not bark at them (most of them aren't a threat).

I thought this was gonna be a passive aggressive topic. It deserves to be lol. Seriously, your dog doesn't need to bark 10 minutes at 6am before you let him in. My dog only barks when he sees people out front or wants in.

Reminds me of a funny story

I was visiting my parents for a holiday like 4 years back and my next door neighbors let their dog out at fucking 2 am and that wolf hound looking fucker barked nonstop for 20 minutes. My mom was pissed because she had work in the morning. I go with her to complain and our (white) neighbor acts like a CEman irl and drops a "you people" while telling us to go away but the dog stops barking a couple minutes later, fortunately right before my mom was planning to call the cops.

Next day the same neighbor shows up at our door with the waterworks already on full blast but my parents tell her to go away and now we act like she doesn't exist.

Race relations in Georgia warms my heart ^_^. My little sister used to play with the neighbor's kids who looked up to her since she's a few years older but that immediately stopped

Even if I do, it's not important to this discussion. In the case of my dog, he's barking in his own yard. If a kid is yelling in a store or something, that's different.

So, if you lived next to kids who screamed in their own yard daily, you'd be completely fine with listening to it while in your house trying to enjoy your media or whatever? You'd never complain because it's in their yard?

Or would you be like"Their parents should teach them not to scream 24/7 while outside"?

Dogs barking is horribly annoying. They should be allowed something like 12 barks a day and it be physically impossible for them to exceed that limit.
