This. Actually it's pretty close between Sega and Sony for me. Although Sega's hardware did let it down a bit.

I'm tempted to say yes, but it's hard to know for sure. They've had some pretty big pitfalls and while they've made it past those they're still really behind the curve in a lot of areas.

I'd say they're the most important, but I wouldn't say greatest. They paved the way for everything but for several generations now they've pretty much been known for being years and years behind their competitors in terms of both hardware and software. For every great system they have, they have another that's a failure, and they essentially rely on the same like 4 series (the series are great, to be fair) to keep them afloat.

Honestly I would've predicted they'd go the Sega route and traded making consoles for exclusively making games years ago, but I guess the systems still continue to sell.
