I told this girl I would finish this drawing by Tuesday, but at this point I think it's going to take me drawing almost the whole day to do it.

It's the only way I know how to work, and I hate it.

I work better with a fire under my ass.

Pressure is good if you are really bad at procrastinating.

However, you should really know realistically how long something is going to take you before you agree to a deadline.

No.

I've learned with age that fallacious thinking lead me to believe pressure helped my work. Pressure merely motivates me to work. I'm a procrastinator by nature, but relied on faulty logic assuming that since I had performed well under pressure it meant pressure was why I succeeded. That was logic to cover up for putting things off.

I do get a rush from working under a tight deadline. I get a thrill at work when something high priority with short turnaround hits me. I do WELL under pressure, but there's basically nothing I couldn't do BETTER with more prep time -- if I can force myself to use that prep time.

This is some solid wisdom.

It usually is a good motivator but now I feel like I am rushing.

You can't rush art. It takes as long as it takes.

i wouldnt say better, but ive handled it well and is one of my best qualities with work. its a bit of a problem that i fear bringing up with management, they tend to lean on me a bit in those situations.

People lose interest after a while though. That's why I try to impose deadlines on myself, otherwise I could work on a drawing off and on for months, but the person won't care anymore by the time it is finished.

I get that. Inspiration comes and goes.

I've started projects that I've hated even looking at by the time I finished.

That happens with me quite a bit. I finish the drawing and email it to the person, then start working on it again for another 20 hours to improve the shading or lines.

One time, I took one day longer than I told the person it would take (family member needed help with something) and the person wouldn't respond anymore.

No, my life has been relaxed in that area. So any pressure pretty much shuts my brain down lol.

no i'm completely the opposite

the less stress and expectations i have, the better i perform. it helps me more to think outside the box when i don't care what other ppl think or expect from me

which unfortunately is the opposite of how the working world is

In school I never really felt pressure to work even when I had to finish something by a deadline tbh. I either finished the assignment (usually last minute) or just blew it off because i'd rather be doing something else.

As an adult, I've never really had the sorts of jobs that gave you deadlines. Mostly driving jobs and a handful of other things like working in a factory or at a gas station.
