The worst automatic bathroom stuff is definitely the faucets. Those seems to be disproportionately more annoying and barely functional when compared to the other stuff.

Generally, automated stuff is best in the bathroom because you don't have to touch anything. When it sucks is when it's an automatic faucet where you have to stick your hand up right next to the spout before it will turn on, then it shuts off if you get more than an inch lower or move at all. You're expected to wash your hands half an inch from the spout without moving them at all.

Assuming they work, hell yes.

Problem is faucets expect you to put your hands pretty much on the faucet to register. If you put your hands in the sink, which maybe it's just me but that's what I do, it won't work.

And just think of how many nasty-ass people have touched that crap, and the stupid thing wants you to do the same. Yuck.

The cinema has a bunch of automatic faucets and dryers that don't even work and they never get fixed, even when I go to the cinema months later.

Several places have automatic urinals, but half of them don't work, yet everyone keeps using the same urinals that aren't flushing...

The ones in the Hudson Yards Mall, which was just completed a few months ago, are very good and accurate. But elsewhere has been mixed results, often not working.

Agreed.

I don't mind automatic fixtures, they usually work well in my experience. The trick ive found with sinks and dryers is to just keep wringing your hands, which ends up being more effective for washing and drying in my experience.

The push-button fixtures are a different story -- the dryers are wonderful, superior to paper towel even, but the faucets can go die in a fire.

No opinion on the toilets, all the ones i used have had a button on top as well as the sensor so never had issues.

Mixed to poor results out here. And then there's auto-flush toilets. They have buttons, but they still flush out of nowhere, like while you're still sitting on one.
