Because infrared photography is awesome. These photos were taken with a Hoya R72 infrared filter with a Nikon D40. These aren't good pictures, but this is what I was able to accomplish in the past without bothering to actually research what I needed to produce images shown after mine, which is where shit gets really wicked

But you can create images like this with an IR filter(or even better altering your DSLR to be way more sensitive to IR light)
