when I was younger, consoles seemed to last forever. but it's really only around 4 to 5 years. Switch will be replaced in another few years probably

The ps4 will be 8 years old when the ps5 comes out.
The ps3 lasted 7 years before the ps4
The ps2 era was 6 years

PS3 had multiple editions, so did the PS2. Consoles getting new versions later in their lifespan isn't something unique to this generation.

Hell, the nintendo 64 got an expansion pack packaged with perfect dark which made games run smoother, and then there was the 32x for the Sega Genesis. Game Boy in particular got all sorts of midlife upgrades like the color. So the idea of a console getting a hardware upgrade in the middle of its life cycle isn't new either.

They can last 30 years. Just won't be the newest version for long.
