I''ve played a bit now, got some places where I explore, just found some Tearracotta plateu biome with loads of gold everywhere, so exploring there, need more diamonds.

The best way to find diamonds is to branch mine. Go down to layer 10 (open the debug menu with F3 and check your Y coordinate) and dig a long shaft 3 or 4 blocks tall. Then, dig shafts perpendicular to that shaft with 3 blocks between them. It's the best way to cover an area. Bring a couple of water buckets to deal with lava, and to maximize your haul, bring a pickaxe with the Fortune III enchantment for mining diamond.

You can dig straight down but only if you stand in the center of four blocks and mine them counterclockwise
