Back in the days when your only first impression of a video game was a bunch of screenshots and a blurb about what it was like.

Hoping that the demo disc was going to have lots of good stuff

Getting hyped and excited because of one single high score review

Laughing at the reviews for absolutely terrible games

Good times

I bought a used PS4 from GameStop earlier this year, and bought a two year warranty thing, and I subscribed to the pro card thing to save a little bit.

now I have a Game Informer subscription.

I remember when PlayStation demo discs sometimes included music videos for some reason

I remember one that was like a techno/industrialish song that had this hobo guy walking around and when he fell his limbs would shatter like glass for some reason.

The demo discs with magazines also were my first real exposure to indie games I think. Some seemed to have weird little games. I remember one game that looked like Mario but you played as a snail who could do little time travel stuff similar to Braid. On the damn PS1. I have no idea what that even was.

There was also that weird little period where the 360 magazine still had demo discs but at that point you already downloaded them like a month before.

Ultra Game Players with all the goofy in-jokes.

There's a website that aims to preserve and archive video game magazines. You can even send in your own if you have anything that they don't. I don't know if I'm allowed to post it here. They don't post any magazines that are still active though.

I remember this song from one of those PS Underground discs. Good stuff.

I was subscribed to Nintendo Power for years, even through that god awful kiddie phase and then eventually into their 'grown up' remaking.

Gamepro was good too, i had a few of those.

Game Players was a great magazine too. I still remember seeing the funny little blurbs written beside the reviewer's mugshot.
