Well yeah, I played the first two then, it's what you're supposed to do before you play the others. There's like 8-9 games in an interconnected world with basically three series in them. Each separate series focuses on a different set of characters/country.

For FC and SC, it starts off a little slow, but ramps up and is pretty amazing if you can get pass the intro/beginner stuff. Hell if you're a collector/achievement whore like I am without a guide, but satisfying to do I guess.

Also, you're mostly playing for the characters/story, but the battle system (turn-based) is pretty good and I heard it's better in the other games.
