-_-

I was thinking I wouldn't even have that much stuff on the drive, but with some large updates for some of my games and several digital games using a few hundred MB each, 32GB didn't last long.

Clearing out my 1TB backup hard drive, going to see if the WiiU detects it. If it does, I was planning to replace it with something bigger anyway, so I'll have a use for it once I do. 1TB is going to be overkill though. :P

Considering the size of your Steam collection not too surprised you filled this console that fast :P

As far as I know, the WiiU works with pretty much any external drive, but you may have to format it to be used exclusively with the WiiU.

Looks like my hard drive isn't going to work since it doesn't have an external power supply, just the single USB cable. The system only decided that this morning after it had the saves to all my digital games.

Ah, yep, that's the limitation.

Yeah, heard it was recommended, but since the stuff was all working last night, I figured it was fine. This morning, click of doom because not enough power. Granted, nothing has more than a few days of progress at most, but still bloody annoying. Now trying to hunt down an external drive that would work. Mighty Ape mostly sells externals powered through USB 3.0 rather than a power point. The few with them are the expensive ones with large drives, and I'm not blowing that much on Wii U storage. Hell, I'd just buy an enclosure and use one of my old hard drives (got some 160s and 320s around here), but still need to find one for that as well.

I bought it to transfer my Wii digital purchases (the Wii digital store shuts down late January, had to move everything over by then).

Still, there are a number of games exclusive to the system or at least Nintendo systems, and I wasn't paying extra for a Switch with paid online on top of that. Haven't found any decently priced copies of Bayonetta 2, Pokken Tournament, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE or Xenoblade Chronicles X.

So for now, it is a Mario Kart 8 machine for my youngest brother, who has been enjoying both the campaign and online.

Almost all of those are on switch though. I also suspect Wii U online service will shut down soon.

Paid online is really cheap too. I spend more than that on lube each month

But it is still paid. I don't play online enough to feel any amount is worth it. I never played online with the PS3 more than twice in years.

Why don't you want a switch?

Right now, the games I want on it are on Wii U, so I went with the option that is cheaper, it means I can buy more games instead. When the library of games I want has a chance to build beyond Wii U ports and the price of the system is more affordable than NZ$550, I'll reconsider it. This Wii U was NZ$220 with a bunch of games that are NZ$90 - 110 each on Switch.
