Wolf is suddenly fun even though I never played him in brawl
Pokemon Trainer is a lot better without stamina and the quick switch
Inkling is cool but finding time to recharge can be hard in 1v1s

In terms of characters with significant changes, I'm still getting used to Ganon finally having his sword, but I like the changes.

In terms of new characters, K. Rool just feels "right" after playing DeDeDe so much in SSB4

I never played 4's DLC (or played his FE games) so I'm really, really enjoying my first experience with Corrin. His attacks transforming parts of his body into his dragon form are neat.

I just kinda wish he wore shoes.

I'm thinking of getting this game, but I never really played Smash before. Got a few questions I'm hoping you or someone else can answer. Thanks.

Do you believe Ultimate will continue for a long time, similar to Melee? I mean is it really that good so far?

How hard would it be for me to learn this game and compete? I play Tekken and NRS games in tourneys, but obviously they're different.

I love the return of Ice Climbers. I am a little rusty since I mained Jiggs last generation. But I love that their Up Air improved and their Down special also appeared to have been buffed. Kinda sucks thought that Nana can't grab anymore.

I haven't unlocked any of the new characters yet. Taking my time through the game.

In terms of mechanics, Ultimate has the most depth out of any smash, including Melee. We'll see if the community can give up old habits, but I wouldn't be shocked if at next EVO they used Ultimate as the smash rep rather than having 2 like they usually do. In terms of long-term support, data miners have said the game can supposedly support up to 30 additional characters, and Nintendo has already pushed out 2 patches for the game, so support should continue for at least a year, if not the lifecycle of the console.

In terms of learning it, this is a tough smash to start fresh. The AI is significantly smarter and harder than it was in past games, and while there's a nice feature-rich single player mode, it doesn't have the sort of newbie support of other fighters (like tutorials or a character-specific challenge mode for learning combos). That being said, if you're versed in fighting games, it isn't too hard to learn in general, especially since the game is much more about baiting and spacing than it is combo execution.

I didn't play Smash 4, so Little Mac is pretty dope to me.

Incineroar is also pretty cool.

I think this game will last. So many characters and I doubt they're gonna release another Smash so soon. I've enjoyed it and a lot of people have, if not for some complaints about online.

I don't think the learning curve is any more difficult than any other fighting game. The tutorial and training modes are pretty good. Also the mapping of buttons to variations of standard and special attacks does make this game easier to pick up than your traditional fighter in my opinion.

If you've never played, the tricky part is mastering the jump, double jump, up special recovery technique that is crucial to surviving this game. That's the part that my wife struggled with the most when learning this game.

I don't have a main. I choose on the fly pretty much every time. Dunno how anyone could pick just one unless you are a serious competitive player.

Like any fighting game, characters fall into general buckets which you can use to help subdivide. Heavier characters, Grapplers, floaty characters, sword users, Etc. Once you find a general play style you like, then it's just an issue of comparing the utility moves between characters in that category.

Or, you can just play the characters from the franchise as you like. Either way, even professional smash players usually maintain at least a handful of picks because counter picking can make a difference in this game pretty heavily.
