It's definitely a slow-burning plot. Sadly, it doesn't always live up to its expectations, and by the end, you realize you slogged through about 80 missions that mostly had a very formulaic nature. Some missions were fantastic, though, like when you burn down Braithewaite Manor in the dead of night and murder Micah's pack of croneys atop Mount Hagen, then kill him.

I wouldn't call the experience a complete wash, though. Mission structure aside, the plot itself and the characters are all pretty enjoyable, even bit players like the ladies in camp, Pearson, etc. I think some particulars of the story (like Dutch's plans all going awry and leading the group in circles, culminating in the Pinkerton scuffles and everyone's decline/demise) are easier to enjoy if one's already a fan of westerns, though.
