They went the route of humanizing the parents which misses the point of the entire premise; even something like the ritual human sacrifice they commit is softened into the person disappearing in a flash of light rather than being just murdered with a knife. I also just don't like some of the changes made (the Staff of One is nanotechnology, for instance). And this is a relatively minor point, but there was one plotline that was changed solely for the sake of diversity which I found really annoying. And the overall plotline and the parents' plan is just way dumber. I read up on it and didn't really like it at all.
