atomic timekeeping, altimeter, temperature, compass, barometer, sunrise/sunset data and some other things including standard digital watch features such as stopwatches and alarms. Oh and its solar powered.

pretty neat. i dont even go hiking or travel the world but fuck it if I want to sense incoming storms I want to do so without using the feeling in my bones, thanks.

I do down a dedicated digital camera. A nikon d3100 DSLR

But yeah, watches are very useful and functional in 2018, imo. its faster to tell time on one as opposed to pulling out the phone and checking time. in addition to that I feel its way easier to use stopwatch functions on one vs a phone. And other things. But really, its preference. some people dont like watches, I do. I feel they do things phones can do but better.

But yeah not that I go hiking but this is a hikers watch. You simply cannot rely on a phone for the information this thing gives you while out on the trail if youre going on a serious hike. However, on that end, depending on how accurate your measurements need to be, you might need something with more accurate sensors than this guy.

Watches are useful. That one sounds pretty useful, too.

Watches are nice as fashion accessories as well. And just cause a phone can do XYZ, doesn't mean that we don't own other things that we just have a preference for that do it better or in a way that we like.

No it doesnt. It just syncs up the time. I can always turn it off.

the garmin units do quite alot of collecting, and who knows what they do with it, since to share officially you gotta be on garmin site ... and those units are ultra useful. who knows what kind of crap could be crammed into a malicious smartwatch

This isnt a smartwatch and it doesnt have a gps. It uses radio waves to sync the time and a compass so you can find your own way but no gps.
