Not sure if that is true anymore.

In his days with Denver and NY, you HAD to give him a superstar deal because he was a "superstar", which meant that not starting him was out of the question. And clearly starting him won't win you anything.

Houston was able to sign him for only $2.4 million because he's still getting money from his last Knicks deal. They used him as he should be used (as a bench player) and he's leaving the team because of it.

Basically you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't with Carmelo Anthony. There's a topic on the NBA board that asks if the Pistons would have won the title in 04 if they drafted Melo instead of Darko. That's actually a very interesting question.

The second the Rockets signed him, they went from being the best shot at preventing another Warriors title to just being another team. Good that they're probably cutting him, but signing him likely cost them a shot at signing an actually useful ancillary player.

Where as the fewest M/G Carmelo played in a season is 29.4 this season.
