My sister's gonna be 25 this year and still no sign of her moving out. And her boyfriend is much the same, though to his credit at least he has full-time work and pays his family rent.

I moved out at 17, though I moved back for a couple of years at 20, before moving back out at 24.

In my big Mexican family its common for there to be 3 generations living in one roof.

Gen 1 are the ones who immigrated here and worked hard manual labor for all their adult lives, and now are at home taking care of Gen 3, while Gen 2 pays the mortgage and bills with a comfortable job that they got from being the first in their family to go to and graduate college.

I would rather move back home than what I see some of these shit heads do these days. "I'm living on my own now!!!!" ..........."MOM can you loan me money for rent!?", and they either live in a dumpy ass apartment or a shit hole trailer, and they have no skills to take care of themselves whatsoever. And on top of that they're always bitching about being broke. So because these shit heads decided they were too cool for school and mom, they're paying for it BIG TIME now and it's funny.

No no no no. I'm not talking about those people. I'm talking about SHIT HEADS. I see some of these people occasionally at work. They always call out "sick" then turn around and bitch about not getting their hours, borrowing money, and not being able to go to school. Then I realize they have the newest IPhone. Fuck them. Meanwhile, I go back into my office smiling it up thinking "hmmm glad I saved money before I went to college so I could get an education and not live like that".

Ideally, you don't/probably can't live on your own if you only have a high school diploma or less. So get some learnins ya fuckin slackers!

When I moved out the first time, I didn't even have (the local equivalent of) that. Nor did I have full-time work, though close to it. And I was still able to get by on my own.

Only moved back because I was like "fuck it, I want to actually get some education". Damn smart move that was; I'm now working in a job that's entirely unrelated to my degree. Oh well, at least student loans here are interest-free and repayment obligations are tied to your income rather than fixed, so they can't fuck your life up.

I feel like that partially depends on what state/city you're in. Of course that's no excuse. One could definitely move states/cities. I however didn't think it was worth the risk. Played it safe and made the grind until I could self sustain.

That's not an issue where me and her live. I get people in big cities have to hole up with like 7 strangers to barely make rent, but it's not that way here.

I went to college after high school, dormed up, immediately starting paying for rent via part time job and since University I have been working and living on my own

There is really no excuse to live with your parents unless you are lazy or have mental problems like learning disabilities
