Unbelievable.

Imagine complaining about getting paid for sitting in a chair and working on a computer. And they probably make $100k a year

They're tricked into buying into the idea that hours of work is equal to quality.

I've done that before

It's pretty bad and you just start to feel like you live at work. Like you really start to wonder why you even own a home, why not just buy some blankets and a sleeping bag and drape them over your desk at night and sleep there so you won't have your precious non-working time eaten up by your commute. Especially if you have to drive yourself, so you can't even play a game or watch something on your way to work.

Though it is doable as long as your environment isn't toxic, but when you work people that hard, it inevitably will become toxic and awful in one way or another.

There's people busting their asses working in mines for 16 hours a day or working in a fucking freezer and you think sitting at a computer is hard work

I've done both office jobs and hard labor. As tiring as the labor was i'd rather do that then sit in an office.

Its a prison and being stuck at a desk all day sucks.

But what you'd really rather be doing than either is sitting at home playing video games all day

ever work at a computer for 12 hours? I mean really work, not play games. Then you probably shouldn't talk.

I have both worked in a freezer for 12 hours putting away milk, as well as meat and worked at a desk for 8 hours. I'll take working freezer any day of the week.

Being in a freezer in and out you at least have your freedom, with great people to talk to. At a desk your all alone, with a boss breathing down your neck, and deadlines. It isn't as fun as you may think. Not to mention the eye strain.

That said, it is where the big bucks are, unless you want to go oil rigging, or welding/plumbing/electrician.

The brain is like any other muscle. It can be overworked and tires. After an 8 hour shift of data entry my mind is ready for a long nap, and that's just pure transcription, not programming with checks, tests, and active problem solving on the go as part of it all.

Number one issue with those office jobs? 9-5 with medical insurance that tends to be limited in what you can visit. And what hours are most clinics or hospitals going to schedule appointments during? 8-5.

Hard Work is not solely physical. Work can be very mentally draining and that is sometimes worse than physical stress. Serving at a resturant for example. It varies highly but depending on the culture/attitude of guests and coworkers, as well as many other factors mental stress is high. You often juggle many tasks and may be abused, and disrespected by co-workers or guests all while having to fake your way through it suppressing your emotions(which done too much is extremely unhealthy). Call-offs, a poor financial situation, physical strain, bad management, lack of sleep(Those poor bastards who close and than open the next day) bad sick policies and a environment that can eaily be a Petri dish for infection(especially in the places with bad sick policies and financially strapped workers. Those things encourage people to come in sick) add a lot of stress.

Also excessive sitting is quite harmful to the human body.

No small amount of back/neck problems and other issues people have are due to this. Repetitive motion injury is a risk too.

And 12+ hours puts you at major risk for sleep problems. And lack of sleep is extremely unhealthy and work hours that put you at risk of chronic lack of sleep should generally be illegal because poor sleep puts you at a hugely increased risk of many serious conditions, decreases quality of life and sleep deprivation causes or contributes thousands of deaths, millions of injuries, and billions in damages every year.

Not only that but such long hours at a job that isnt a rather well paying one damage economic mobility and ability to improve oneself(I.E further education is difficult if you spend half or more of every day working) and also will damage family and personal relationships by making them harder to maintain due to the lack of time.

Hard(but smart) work is a good thing. Excessive hard work is extraordinarily bad for society and deeply immoral to inflict upon someone.

If it's office workers, they're probably on a salary and not getting paid extra for all those hours. They also probably aren't making nearly what you think. After a couple promotions and raises I managed to get my salary up to $42,000. It sucks.

Literally every desk in my office has anime figures on it. Seriously. Even my boss (well Dragon Quest figures, but that's close).
